Felix

Hi, I’m Felix. I have a diagnosis of dyslexia and autism. I knew before I had a test – I’d heard about it before and saw similarities in the how I felt about myself. I asked my parents who talked me through the different tests. Best times – when I started realising that there was a group for ND and then I started to feel more ok about my differences. In school I try really to do the right thing as I hate being in trouble (doesn’t everybody!). It’s tricky as some people make comments about me being perfect this bothers me. It takes a lot of energy to do exactly what I need to do. As I’ve started to understand myself, I feel more regulated at home – I used to explore. Certain parts of school caused so much anxiety that I couldn’t attend and felt that I let people down which made it even harder to return. This was mainly linked to assemblies and standing up in front of large groups. I wanted to do it but just felt too much. I have built up more confidence to speak up in large groups and work with my teachers to have roles that I feel comfortable with.

I am writing poetry at the moment and I enjoyed visiting Morley Victoria Primary to talk about dyslexia and am looking forward to returning in April to read my poetry.

As a ND ambassador,  I’d like to help children who might find class upsetting at times. To support regulation especially if pupils are masking in school and exploding at home.
