Manor Wood Primary School

Swimming at MWPS

Children are taken to swimming lessons at Scott Hall Leisure Centre in Year 4. Various staff have received CPD throughout the year. In the summer term of 2021, we started to deliver a Year 5 booster swimming group to provide opportunities for those children that required extra lessons.

In March 2022, Mrs Lester (4L) attended an 'Aqua Festival' with her year group:

"I wanted to feedback on our children's involvement in the aqua festival on Tuesday at Scott Hall.  The festival involved over 30 races plus many water polo team games and about 6 school.

24 children from Manor Wood attended of all abilities from non swimmers through to confident swimmers.  The children who went from Manor Wood represented the diversity of our school -(I was asked to complete a survey for the organisers of the mix of children and (approx) over half were from non-white British ethnic backgrounds and over 1/3 SEND).  It was busy with lots of schools involved and lots of children on the pool side waiting for their race and our children were well organised, were all prepared to have a go, cheered each other on and didn't appear to get too daunted by everything.  Many of the improver swimmers had a go at playing water polo with the  other more confident swimmers and I had to draw the line when even some of the non-swimmers requested to be part of the water polo team.

Although it was another activity to coordinate in a very busy half term I know that the children will have got a lot out of it and really impressed me.  I often forget to share these things but didn't want to forget this!"
